Nosim

Nosim was born in California and believes in the power of authenticity, creativity and intrinsic motivation. She loves to express herself through photos, painting, stencils and performance. When she is not designing webpages or ads for her day job you can usually find her hanging upside down at circus school, looking through her lens, picking up a paintbrush or getting lost on an adventure.

She believes that being kind and doing things bigger than yourself  is always the right thing to do, and that adventure and dreams are out there. You just have to go out and find them.

Through my art, I want to capture moments of every emotion, every second of every face or shadow and truly capture the deepest part of the soul. I am especially interested in the parts of us that we never talk about, the raw parts, our inner most being, and finding our truths that we hide away from even ourselves. I am also deeply interested in storytelling, imagination, and work that promotes growth and connection

My work has been shown in galleries across the state of California and in several cities throughout Ecuador.

Outside of art I love adventure, magic and play. I love getting lost. Sometimes I get lost in a painting or performance, other times I turn off my phone and go get lost in a forest or canyon. It is important to disconnect and be fully present. In those moments between the moments you can touch the reality of life in its purest form. I believe that through play and connection human potential can flourish.

Before I painted on canvas I found my passion in the streets, on dirty and textured walls in Ecuador through street art and stencil work. In my recent work, I continue to use old textured surfaces, and love finding trash that can be painted on. I am especially in love with old broken instruments, door panels of varying sizes, and large scraps of used wood.

My older series ‘Color’ is a culmination of characters brightly colored and eye catching. This style is still being used in my recent work but I am beginning to transfer my ideas and creatures into a children’s book that I am writing and illustrating.

My newest series called “Movement” is combining movement, dance, circus aerial arts and the emotions behind these creative beings. I want to capture the very soul of the performer in their most raw state.

I am also working on a Mural for Pierpont Elementary, you can see updates on this project in my blog.

Please check out my project Walls of the World: Stories in the Street bringing brightly colored children’s stories to boost literacy and share ideas and inspiration.

NOSIM, a Massai name given to me when I was doing work in Kenya, means “someone who brings happiness to those around them.”
